Hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) or hepatoma is a common liver cancer in India. It is seen especially in individuals who have cirrhosis, Hepatitis B or C virus and even fatty liver disease. There are various modalities available to treat HCC. The treatment choice depends on size/ number of the tumour, whether the cancer has invaded blood vessels and patients clinical condition.
The patient undergoes imaging studies and blood tests to assess the details of the tumour. Liver transplantation is currently the best modality to treat early cancers in setting of cirrhosis. Resection or mere removal of tumor is an option in non cirrhotic patients or patients with early cirrhosis (Child A).
We also offer Radio frequency ablation (RFA), Trans Arterial Chemo Embolization (TACE), Trans Arterial Radio-Embolization (TARE) in association with our Interventional radiology team.
